We are a Parish in the Archdiocese of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America under the jurisdiction of His Grace, The Right Reverend IRENEE (Bishop of Quebec City and Administrator of the Archdiocese of Canada), and we celebrate according to the New Calendar.

Prayers and Cares

We are hoping to keep a continuous list of everyone who may be in need of our special prayers and attention.  This could be an elder, an ill person or shut-in, someone who will be facing something crucial in their life (good or bad), or someone who will be going on a trip.  Your family and friends do not have to be a member of our church, just someone who needs a little love and support.

Please e-mail us their name and story.

Church School/Youth Group

Since we all need to occasionally refresh ourselves, we thought that this might be a nice segway into a new Church School year.  We have been working on a plan to start a different kind of program for Kids and Adults.

Matushka Patricia has been working with our younger ones with a program she has created to make it exciting and entertaining.  The kids love her, and look forward to seeing her each week.

Fr. Dean is structuring a learning forum of Questions/Answers after church.  This informal setting has proven to be very valuable, and is peaking the interest of many people.

We are also working on some activities over the course of the next few months.  Some ideas (on both sides of the border) include field trips (other churches and monasteries), invited speakers; or maybe not so church related things as bowling, a barbecue, theatres and museums.

Neighbourhood Ministry

The are so many great ideas that have been mentioned on how to become more included in the neighbourhood.

There are some community events in the planning stages.  This includes meals, seminars, support groups, and fund raisers.  We are also developing a market place to begin renting our newly remodelled Social Hall for private occasions.

We have also been working with The

Drouillard Place
(an outreach centre for the neighbourhood); have met with the local director of the City Community Centre; and people from some of the other Orthodox Churches, as well as some of local business owners.

History and Artifacts

Being the first Orthodox church in Windsor carries so many responsibilities to our future.  We are still collecting and preserving many old documents, books, newspaper articles, and music to present and celebrate from our rich 92 year history of life here at St John the Divine.

Sonia Boyar created a beautiful display of our heritage at our 92nd Anniversary celebration last September.  It brought back some wonderful memories.

Historical Designation for our Church Building

We are collecting information, criteria, and requirements to find out how we may qualify as a Canadian Historical Designated Facility.  We have been working diligently with some people with the City of Windsor, and shortly will be pursuing the work in Toronto.

Building Restoration/Repair

The primary goal is to get everything ready as quickly as we can, but the building is still needs a lot of work.

The Social Hall is in the final stages of the renovation.  This work included cleaning, building, plastering, painting, getting the necessary repairs done, and improving our Curb Appeal.

The Long Term Goals include final answers on our heating system, roof and exterior repairs so that we can seal and repair our ceiling and upper walls.  We also need to address our exterior signage and parking woes.

Future Communication and Marketing the 21st Century

Now that we finally have a website, and are creating a true Mailing List, we have been exploring how to get our word out, specifically using our technology to better reach the Orthodox "lost sheep"  and evangelizing the neighbourhood.

Our E-Newsletter campaign has been a tremendous success, and with the combination of several media avenues, are hoping to continue to grow.
